The coolest parent one could ever hope for

Growing up with my best friend Paul at St Georges primary school was so much fun and after school and at weekends I was always made most welcome at the Buxton household on Marsh Lane. Mr and Mrs Buxton were perfect in every sense; a lovely handsome couple, very jovial and welcoming whenever I was to visit. Happy memories as young boy were going for walks with the family dog (Judy) ? down by Goytside farm, running to see the trains as they passed, playing with Tonka toys near the garages and digging up Mrs's B's garden to create a track for our toy trucks, playing Subbuteo on the kitchen table (Paul had the full Celtic team and I chose United) and bonfire night fireworks, always  so much fun to be had with Janet and Hazel often joining in too. by the time the family moved to Disley, Paul and I were teenagers and Music was fast becoming an influence on the two school buddies. I remember asking Mr B what kind of music he liked and he spoke eloquently about some guy called Bruce Springsteen, now this was several years before the UK fell in love with "The Boss", but Mr B was always well ahead of the game and indeed the youngsters were soon to catch up on such a great artist too. Mr Buxton had the biggest articulated trailer you could imagine and Mr B ironically parked his Trailer next to my dad's work bus at the bottom of Church Road but once again the trailer emblazoned with Laurence S Buxton was by far, the cooler of the two. I also seem to remember that Mr B had a dark green Ford Capri?, I might be wrong on this issue (as I was very young) but if this was the case, just goes to show how cool Mr B was way back then and not many children can say that about a much loved parent. Rest easy Mr B, our Love and prayers are with the whole Buxton Family, Mr B will always be remembered as the coolest dad, one could ever hope for.  (Paul, New Mills)  "Someday Girl, I don't know when, We're gonna get to that place, where we really want to go, and we'll walk in the sun, but till then tramps like us, Baby we were born to run".
